About

Hi, and thanks for reading.  First off, the title of the blog does not necessarily mean I have anything worldly or even wise to say.  I just thought it had a nice ring to it.

With that said, I have zipped around the world a bit.  I started out in South Korea where I was born, then moved to New York when I was 2. I grew up in upstate New York, then moved to Topeka, KS in my junior year of high school, and a year later moved to the south suburbs of Chicago (that would be 3 different high schools).  Because I couldn’t stay put in one place for more than two years, I started college  in Boston and finished in Champaign, IL.  After college, I lived in Boston (where I was a typical Gen X-er working crap jobs), Indiana (don’t ask), and Chicago (working in the international “something” field).  I spent most of the money I earned on vacations, and took trips to Europe, the Caribbean, and Central America before making the big leap and joining the Peace Corps in Kazakhstan at the age of 29.

I found my focus while in the Peace Corps and went on to study international public health and development in New Orleans.  My first mission was in Thailand, working in community health in two Burmese refugee camps.  For my next mission, I went to South Sudan, where I worked in nutrition and health education.  I had found a meaningful career in international health and development/humanitarian aid and planned on spending a long while living and working around the world.

Then I got pregnant.

Now my world is my family, home, and friends here in Tucson, AZ.  My life is not nearly as exciting as it used to be, but it is fulfilling in other ways.  Someday I hope to return overseas and continue working in international health.  In the meantime, though, I have this blog to talk about the experiences I had abroad and somehow connect them to the world I live in now.  I hope you join me for the ride.
